The Kurds came to the Versaille Peace Treaty asking Woodrow Wilson for their country. The Brits and French were vehement about stopping Woodrow Wilson on that matter.
The Kurds have had a battle for their land longer than the high profile much sympathized with Palestinians.
But the world is whipped this way and that way by the winds of the current fashions.

The Brits tried to bomb the Kurds out of existence for 9 years between the Great Wars when the Brits owned what is now Iraq. jimmoyer is very much on the right track. Poorly plotted Peace deals are precursor to the next war. But what to do about the Kurds. They sit on one of Iraq's major oil fields. The Americans insited the Kurds to revolt in the early 1990's but Saddam failed to kill them all. Damn his inefficiency (sarcasm). No way the Americans want to section off a piece of Iraq to them. The Turks already have one genocide on their hands. Its a mess and certainly an ingredient for the region falling into ethnic / religious / civil war.

considering the kurds want a huge parcel of land from 3 different existing countries for their state, there demands mite be the problem. They even want damascus the current capital of syria as their own capital of a future kurdish state.
