Trump tweets thanks to the leader of conservative student group accused of racial bias and illegal campaign activity

President Donald Trump on Friday tweeted out thanks to a head of a conservative student group just a day after its field director of accused of sending out a racist text saying she hates black people.

The president sent out the missive after Charlie Kirk, the head of Turning Points USA, had appeared on Fox News and praised the president in a segment.

'The President has accomplished some absolutely historic things during this past year,' Kirk said of Trump – a quotation the president mentioned in his own tweet.

After including the quote, Trump wrote: 'Thank you Charlie Kirk of Turning Points USA. Sadly, the Fake Mainstream Media will NEVER talk about our accomplishments in their end of year reviews. We are compiling a long & beautiful list.'

The White House has already undertaken to shape year-end lists, giving a background briefing to reporters the day before Trump left town for Mar-a-Lago, and compiling a list of 81 accomplishments.

Trump did not mention that a day earlier, the New Yorker published a lengthy report on the group which revealed the group's national field director, Crystal Clanton, was accused of sending a racist text.

Screenshots showed to the magazine by a source showed a text Clayton sent to another Turning Point employee saying, 'i hate black people. Like **** them all . . . I hate blacks. End of story.'

'Thank you Mr. President,' Kirk tweeted in response to the president's acknowledgement.

Clanton, who resigned from her post last summer, did not explicitly deny sending it.

'I have no recollection of these messages and they do not reflect what I believe or who I am and the same was true when I was a teenager,' she told the magazine.

The group is a non-profit with an $8 million annual budget.

It is a charity organized as a 501(c)3, which means contributions are tax-deductible, but it is barred from political work.

The New Yorker spoke with former Turning Point aides who were asked to use efforts and lists to boost GOP presidential candidates. Kirk told the magazine that some donors 'are in the fossil-fuel space.'

The group had a Campus Victory Project to take over student government presidencies control across college campuses.
