Trescothick's Indiaphobia

England's Marcus Trescothick has said that he has Indiaphobia, the fear of India.

ENGLAND cricket ace Marcus Trescothick has a dread of INDIA, it was revealed yesterday.

His Indiaphobia means he has withdrawn from next month’s ICC Champions Trophy in the country.

Trescothick, 30, suffers a terror of illness after his last tour there in February which he spent stuck on the loo.

A stomach bug was blamed when he came home early and there was speculation about his marriage to wife Hayley.

But yesterday it emerged from a team source the Test opener was so ill in India he locked himself in his hotel bathroom.

Now Trescothick has told the England selectors: “I can’t go back there.”

Just the thought of the country triggers a terrible stomach upset, it was claimed.

The Somerset star has been struggling with his form this year and was out for a duck against Pakistan on Tuesday. The source added: “He’s still very much suffering from being out there last time.

“It was extremely traumatic for him and he’s developed a fear of the country.

“He had the runs so badly he could not get off the toilet for hours on end.

“It was horrible for him and he fears it will happen again.”

Since his return from India in February, he has been receiving medical treatment.

A statement from Performance Healthcare, which has been helping him, read: “In addition to the harmful effect of the acquired gastrointestinal infection, it later became evident he was also suffering from an underlying stress-related illness.”

Top Excuses

DENNIS Bergkamp refused to fly to any Arsenal matches overseas because he is afraid of planes.

Cricketer Geoff Boycott said he was ill during a Test — and was later spotted playing golf.

Batsman Brian Lara was once late because “he had no police escort”.
