A Tory MPP says he meant no offence when he called out to former premier Kathleen Wynne in the Ontario Legislature.
“Why are you still here?” shouted York Centre MPP Roman Baber, who says he was just joking around.
“I didn’t mean any disrespect, for sure,” Baber said Monday.
“I was a little surprised that given the Liberal lack of success in the last election that the premier is just staying here.”
Wynne was re-elected to represent the Toronto riding of Don Valley West, although the Ontario Liberals were reduced to just seven seats in the legislature.

While a defeated premier usually bows out — and Wynne did step aside as her party’s leader — she remained as a sitting MPP.
Baber’s jab, which was caught by CityNews‘ Cynthia Mulligan, set off Liberal MPP Michael Coteau.
“That wasn’t a joke,” Coteau said.
“It was disgusting and disturbing.”
The Liberal MPP said he’s noticed the level of decorum in the House dropping in recent months.

“I just think that the most important thing is that we treat each other with respect,” Coteau said.
“When people start getting personal, it’s just unacceptable.”
Baber said he meant no harm by the comment.
“I do not know that I owed the premier an apology,” he said.
“At the end of the day on June 7, the people of Ontario made a decision not to continue with Liberal spending and mismanagement… I was a little surprised that she’s still here.”
