You know there are many posts on here saying that no one "wants" an election. I would propose to you that this poll result would take place virtually every time there is an election. There was an interesting news article that stated that if the question was asked would you like an election to remove the liberal government, the yes result was quite higher than the no response. The pollsters did say that when the question is asked about wanting an election, the answer will always be the majority no. Again, it is all in the way the question is framed and asked. It' s like asking if you would like to go drive for 14 straight hours. The answer is probably convincingly no. However, ask if you want to go drive for 14 straight hours to get to Las Vegas for a fully paid two week gambling vacation, and I suspect the answer may be a resounding yes.

Well, let's not be making vacation plans yet. According to what I just heard on CBC radio, next Opposition Day in the House is May 31st, and the motion of non-confidence is already on the order paper. They're gonna try again.

The byelection in Labrador is May 24th I think, and with all the legal niceties involved with returning the writs and making the result official, it might not happen in time to help the government on the next confidence vote, assuming the Liberals win the seat.

So if the liberals win the seat in Labrador....what effect will that have?

They won't need Cadman anymore?

If the seat in Labrador goes Liberal (rumour is that it will) it means that Cadman (or the other independents) has (have) the deciding vote instead of the Speaker. That actually makes things more volatile again.

Something else that it would do is give momentum to the Liberals though, which may make the other parties a little more reticent about going after the Martin government because they will all be in election mode and wanting to appear reasonable.

"In setting out to win tonight's vote at all costs, the prime minister and the Liberal party has again displayed in full view of all honest hard working Canadians, the very lack of principle and integrity that underlies their corruption and scandals."

Quoted from the devil himself.

Change the wording a little and you have the real facts.

"In setting out to win tonight's vote at all costs, Stephen Harper and the Conservative party has again displayed in full view of all honest hard working Canadians, the very lack of principle and integrity that underlies their power-madness and lies and also their inability to listen to the will of the people.."

I'm surprised that, in the interest of political posturing in their home province, Hearn and Doyle didn't abstain from the vote after they'd seen that their party was defeated anyway...instead they voted against the Atlantic Accord...I wonder how the Newfies are going to feel about that...

Considering that the Atlantic Accord was first proposed by the conservatives in last years election, I am sure the people of Newfoundland (not Newfies, please), were confident that if the vote was lost the conservatives would honor the agreement, just as Stephen Harper said he would.

Cute, not very informative, but cute. Too bad it applies only to the Liberals though. They have proven they will do anything to hold onto power, including becoming a pimp.

Thats what I was thinking. :)

Harper just can't "win". He in my opinion is a "lame duck" leader. If Martin wins next time, which he very easily will. It will be a larger Miniority and more NDP seats he will be gone.

Also the 45%-30% lead Liberals have in Ontario, makes me think Martin will gain some seats there, enough maybe to re coup seats he will lose in Quebec, and Harper will lose seats in Ontario, so it all adds up, that there will be a new Conservative leader this time next year.

Hell this time next year the Conservatives may have imploded on themselves and split back into two parties again.

All I know the federal scene will be interesting for the next couple of years. More interesting than normal.

More fear mongering then?

...and I've double fisted Screech with some of Newfoundland's finest, so I'll not be receiving a chastisement for my use of the term Newfie, from the likes of you, little boy blue...

I believe the CSI shows are produced by our Alliance Atlantis Films for the US market,so it's almost "Canadian Content",eh? I am not a political junkie[sorry!],so I prefer to watch most anything else. So,after seeing the finale,it's a bloody long time until next Sept. or Oct. when a new season begins.
