King Charles III today visited Westminster Hall in the Houses of Parliament to unveil a plaque which marks the place of the Lying-in-State of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.

Westminster Hall, built in 1097 by King William II, is the only part of the Houses of Parliament that wasn't completely destroyed by the conflagration of 1834.

King Charles III met the Leader of the House of Lords Lord True and the Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt as well as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and party leaders.

The installation of the plaque continues a royal tradition which goes back to King Edward VII in 1910.

His Majesty continued to New Palace Yard where he unveiled a pair of bronze sculptured lamps - a gift from Parliamentarians to the late Queen.
