There will be some who say "Oh it's those greedy corrupt Liberals that are responsible for XYZ..."
Some will say "Fat-Cat Conservative governments behave just the same as Liberal governments..."
We frequently hear and read comments and perspectives from folk who suggest that the need for Canadian Forces folk to travel to Afghanistan and die on our behalf is demonstration of a commitment by our government to safeguard freedom and is consistent with the wishes of the Canadian people....
So when it comes to spending money and spilling blood, the Canadian government is keenly aware of public sentiment and has the pulse of the nation under its finger....
Meanwhile Canadian's working part time jobs (frequently more than one) are required to pay into the Employment Insurance fund but are ineligible for benefits.....
There is currently a "paper" surplus of some forty billion dollars sitting in the EI books but it's more than likely that this forty+billion doesn't exist as capital assets because both Liberal and Conservative governments have plowed this "surplus" into general revenues....hence this wad of cash is now only a line entry in the books....
Canadians are dying in one corner of the world to "protect democracy and safeguard 'freedom' " while other Canadians are having their quality of life and future potential stolen by successive Canadian governments.
Why aren't people upset about this?
Perhaps it's because it isn't "real" for the average Canadian...
The idea that a quantity of virtual money exists in some virtual treasury that's been collected by some virtual government with virtual integrity isn't nearly as impactful as weeping family members collecting the remains of some young Canadian sacrificed to protect our virtual freedom and virtual democracy....
