Canadians deserve to know why

"...Sometime within the next two years, the CBC is almost certainly going to lose its single largest source of advertising revenue, NHL hockey. It will be out-bid for the contract by one of the country’s enormously wealthy commercial broadcasters, probably Bell Media. That will mean a loss of 40 per cent of the corporation’s total annual ad revenue, but also a loss of something close to 400 hours of Canadian content programming – a hole that will have to be filled. Already bled white by decades of funding reductions from successive federal governments, the CBC is in no position to survive this blow."

Hither and yon
The CBC is a made in Canada fiasco.
You cannot blame the Conservatives and you cannot blame the Liberals, the CBC just exists like the common cold.
They lost the Olympics coverage, next comes hockey, some national broadcaster they are.

A tax payer funded public broadcaster that runs advertising for profit on television.
And then refuses to tell the Government or the public how much profit it makes or what it does with the money.
In fact the CBC refuses to tell any Government agency or for that matter any NGA anything and fights any and all informational requests with refusal and lawsuits.
And now they have applied to advertise for profit on radio.
While funded as public TV and public radio.

They fight Sun TV's application for manditory distribution but have course have enjoyed manditory distribution themselves for decades.

Politically as an organization they are elitist and despise the Harper Conservatives.
Which is pretty funny if you are a Harper hater because Harpers Conservatives have to fund the CBC to the tune of around a billion taxpayer dollars a year.
So that the CBC can turn then around and aggressively campaign against the Conservative Government on a non stop basis.

Hate the Conservatives or not, you have to ask yourself, what the hell is a publicly funded media organization doing playing partisian political games ?
At public expense.

I think there needs to be a rethink and a do-over at CBC.
Back to basics.
We need the radio for sure, especially in remote areas but we could probably model it after NPR or even BBC.
Probably scrap TV all together except for a stripped down informational service in the north.

Hockey Night in Canada is about the only thing the CBC manages to get right. Love their broadcasts. They also do a good job of covering figure skating. Other than that, I don't bother to tune them in at all.
