Hello to everybody!

Could you help me with advise?
My husband finishing now PhD in Geochemistry (Moscow, Russia) that will be defended in December, 2010. He received an invitation for the postdoc position (Earth Sciences) from the professor of Canadian University (British Columbia). The professor asked him to find a support for this postdoc.

Could you help me with information? Do you know any financial support programs for postdoc position for foreign people?
He examined NSERC programs and found only one program acceptable for him (Banting postdoctoral fellowship)

There's something wrong with this. The institution offering the postdoc fellowship is responsible for finding funding for it, not the candidate.

Unfortunately we haven’t big experience in search of postoc-position (this is a first time), but after the study of the matter (including forum’s discussion) we understood that your case (professor of university provides for candidate all funding) – is not a single way to get a position. Another way – when professor and candidate (together) develop project for postoc position and after that they apply for funding in acceptable grant program. This is our case. We must find a grant program that supports foreign people (now we have Russian citizenship).

Support means applying for grants. If he's been offered a position at UBC, then he is being asked to provide his credentials. It means he has been selected for the position, but they need paperwork ... proof of designation.

Tell him to fill out the paperwork for the NSERC.
... and watch the legal documents.
