My wife is Dutch and her family came from the Netherlands to Powell River. I like the area when we visit and eat Gouda cheese

'The Sunshine Coast' is only a valid term in relation to the rest of the 'Wet coast'. The last time we visited two years ago there were torrential downpurs and roads washed out. As an Albertan I'd call it 'The Sort of Sunshine Coast'.

Don't let them grind you down, Gibsons. The Sunshine Coast is one of the beauty spots of North America. I have a friend from the Bay Area who struggles to decide each year whether to spend his vacation on the Island or in Madiera Park. Count yourself lucky if you get to live there; I only get to visit.

Yup! Been there once on a camping trip, with my truck-camper.... beautiful. Sorry I missed your earlier posts.

Thought it was pretty ignorant, though, of the folks with big fancy houses outside our Provincial Campground, to have pressured the BC govt to ban camp-fires in the campground, because of the smoke......

uhhhhh - who was there FIRST ? ? ? ?

Common sense no longer dictates the proper course of action....

Just ask the float plane operators in Victoria's inner harbour. Somebody thought it'd be nice to buy a condo there and watch the activities...but then discovered it was too noisy and complained and got their wish....

People are tards. thats all there is to it.!

Like people who buy houses out by the airport (any airport) because prices are cheaper out there, then complain about airplane noise. I've never understood it.

Oh, and PS, we lived on the Sunshine Coast for five years, we really loved it there, lived in Gibsons. Our daughter was five-ish when we moved there, it is the perfect place for a kid to grow up.

Sorry to grave dig but I had a giggle to find this thread! Funny how many people I encounter that know of Gibsons! My daughters principal at her Calgary school vacations in Gibsons and a bag boy at our local Co-op was from there and was moving back soon. My husband didn't believe me when I told him that no matter where we go we will encounter someone who knows of Gibsons and probably has been there!

Well basically, Thulin, Canada consists of three kinds of people: people who have lived in BC, people who now live in BC, and people who want to live in BC. :D

Aviallani, there is another oddity like that (everybody knowing about Gibsons). Thompson, Manitoba is like that as well, but unlike Gibsons, it is a little bitty dark and cold hole in the northern end of Manitoba. I have talked to so many people who know about Thompson, and it is amazing how many people have actually lived there. Mind you, the reaction (recoiling in horror) when hearing the name Thompson, Manitoba is considerably different than hearing the name Gibsons!

<edit to add: it isn't really such a bad place, it is just excessively cold in the winter and full of nasty bugs in the summer, and it is totally cut off from everywhere with little nature to enjoy because of the aforementioned flies and cold, ha ha).
