Aron Eisenberg, who played Nog on Star Trek: Deep Space 9, has died at the age of 50.
Eisenberg’s widow Malissa Longo described him as her “love and best friend” in a Facebook post Saturday.
“He was an intelligent, humble, funny, emphatic soul. He sought to live his life with integrity and truth,” Longo wrote.
The couple had been together for five years but only married last December. Longo said they eloped but were saving up money for a “big shindig” to celebrate.
No cause of death was given but StarTrek.com reported the actor had suffered from health issues. He received two kidney transplants during his life, the second of which in 2015.
Eisenberg is best-known for Star Trek: Deep Space 9, where he played Nog — the Ferengi best friend of station commander Benjamin Sisko’s son Jake and nephew to scheming bar owner, Quark. Eisenberg appeared in 47 episodes of the show, which aired from 1993 to 1999.
Quark actor Armin Shimerman honoured his “great friend” on Twitter.
“He was a man of conviction and enormous sensitivity and the best of humanity,” he wrote. “Kitty and I grieve for Aron, his boys, and Malissa. Flights of angels my friend…you will be missed.”
