ITN, we walk on beer!

Whether or not the US was at fault, there is no way they would end this without saving some face too. This would've gone on forever if Canada didn't give something in the negotiations. People in the US want to work too. No politician is going to lay down and say to his/her electorate they just have to live with the principle of it all and find a new line of work.

Hon. Speaker: The hon. member for Dark Bee—Ver has raised a question of privilege, in relation to whether this thread is in the correct forum; however, I am not prepared to rule that the breach is of a prima facie nature, and therefore, the hon. member for Hank Sea is not going to be ordered to move this thread at this time.

Some hon. member: Oh, oh!

Hon. Speaker: Order! Let's have some order, please. The hon. member for Five—Paire-au-docs has the floor. Order, please! Order.

I maintain that while it's good that this Government reached a conclusion, I wish that it could have encompassed more than this particular agreement has — I would also have wished for this deal to keep within the boundaries of "free trade", rather than moving the softwood industry back into the "managed trade" category.

I think not said:
Remember the beer dispute? The one Canada refused to comply with two GATT panel decisions against Canada, after years and years of negotiations, it ended. And then Ontario started slapping taxes on American imported aluminum cans after the agreement.

Canada was totally in the wrong on this.

Canada did in beer what America is doing in lumber.

Like I said, the US was wrong. Just took a few down memory lane is all.
