This is what's known as a "thought experiment". it's where you think to yourself "what would happen if..."

sometimes a thought experiment can lead to very itneresting conclusions, or make us aware of an important issue or paradox.

I would think that any germs and other such bugs they were carrying would have dissipated off to other places by now. I don't think there's much to catch from them, not from people that long dead.
