People have been asking if world cup soccer is silly or not. There is some good points too.
Maybe it should just be a game for the poorer nations, the third world's pervue. With Italy Germany Portugal and England being finalists when the Europeans are hosting it, we wonder about conspiracy too.
Problems
- the winners are the ones who don't allow any goals against - Italy and France didn't allow ONE in four weeks or something like that. Hockey dealt with that issue...
- Victory, for Italy this time, and so often, is decided by penalty kicks, kickoffs, or maybe referees, not soccer proper. That begs the question - is it worthy? Whats the honor and glory in that?
DISHONER is evident in the diving, the fake squirming , and Zidane's head butt into the chest of an Italian player in the final.

Finally, for me and other television watchers of soccer, is that background crowd noise - There is the cheers and singing, but in the background there is a sound that is like mechanical crickets dragging their fingernails across a blackboard, for the entire game!! The announcers are barely audible over that screeching sound. What is it - cowbells and tin noisemakers? breaking glass? I didn't think any humans made a noise like that. In golf there is the irritating helicopters in the background, but this is worse.
So, if thats my complaint, its not so bad I guess - I can just turn the sound off. I usually just turn the game off tho. Maybe I am just not cultured enough.
