Has anyone here ever tried one of those shoutcast TV streams? There's probably about 250 public streams available where some are available mainly upon subscription and registration of your IP address. You can catch most of the programs shown on regular cable and some on digital cable/satellite such as HBO shows.

I don't normally watch much TV, but I did sign up for a monthly subscription for ESS.tv ( http://www.ess.tv ) and Streamwired ( http://www.streamwired.com ). It's great for me because I can't catch most of them here in Germany and I get to watch shows like the Simpsons or Abfab.. they even have Trailor Park Boys!

I'm just curious of the legality of these services, but I suppose they're alright because they've all been running for a while now.

In my search for information I keep finding your post, still no answer Isee.

Well I have tried these streams, I am in Australia and have ISDN connection.

Many of the streams are 128kb which is good for me but I think it maybe posible to improve further for my use.

You see having connection speed and streaming speed the same means breaks of several seconds every so often in play because of losses in my system <128 actual max posible download.

These streams are Winamp compatible, winamp downloads and plays till stream gets behind and play has break.etc.etc.
I am in the process of trying a few fixes so WMP can except streams
(I hope I am close to a win) but maybe not, still at it.
The posible logic in this is that WMP has play optimization to follow your connection speed and could prevent the gaps in play.

Any body in the same boat/Have some advice/or just interested
let me know-
I will come back here to look if I remember, you could also if you wish email me talk further.
I have some programs and info to work with but I do not claim to know any thing indeed computers are pretty new to me, just a person having a go.
