Homeless in Edmonton
I've just moved to the Edmonton area for a business opportunity. We drove out here from BC and have been looking for a place to buy. I know many people have posted not to come out unless they have somewhere to live first, but we've stayed with family, and we're pretty flexible in what we're looking for as long as it's in a good area.
So I've found a home that I really like in Sherwood Park. It's in the south end Broadmoor Estates between the golf course and Sherwood Dr. Those of you who live in Sherwood Park, is this a good area to buy a home in? I know that they're building a new development of condos by festival way so that should help the area keep its value, even though the rest of the neighbourhood is pretty old. What do you guys think?

My daughter bought a house in Sherwood Park two years ago and sold it in August for $100k more than she paid. I visited twice and thought it was a very quiet family oriented community. I was pretty skeptical when she bought because it is down wind from all those oil refineries, but there was no reason to be concerned.

Well it's definately growing. And you will definately get a return on your home investment. Fantastic place to raise a family. The only part I don't like about Sherwood Park is that getting in and out of the city is a BITCH when there is traffic delays. And the other is that it's so close to the industrial area of Edmonton...i have enviormental/health concerns. But otherwise, I say go for it.

Sherwood Park is an upper middle class, attractive community. The only negative thing I have heard is from a doctor friend who says that the incidence of asthma (especially in children) is much higher because of the airborne pollution from the refineries near there.
Also if you drive with a lead foot you will get dinged for a lot of money and points, the police are everywhere and they have high tech hidden technology to catch you. But that's only a neagtive if you're a scofflaw.
