The Royal Navy ship HMS Severn forced the Russian ships out of British waters to the coast of northern France where NATO allies took over
Two Russian warships were intercepted in the English Channel by the Royal Navy, the British Ministry of Defence has revealed.
HMS Severn – a Royal Navy River-class coastal patrol vessel – stormed over to escort a Russian corvette and a tanker as they sailed west through the Dover Strait into the English Channel.
Vladimir Putin’s small warship RFN Stoikiy and tanker Yelnya were escorted over to the coast of Brittany, northwest France, where Nato ally forces took over.
The MoD said HMS Severn “continued to observe from a distance and remained ready to respond to any unexpected activity”.
The River-class vessels are almost literally the Royal Navy's last line of defence for Great Britain - they lurk around the British coastline on the lookout for enemy ships.
