Evidently...otherwise why would the feds and the province get together so quickly to hold talks...and why would the province consider buying the land back from the developer until the ownership issue is settled?
The land was originally(as I understand it) given to the Natives for repayment for their military services in two wars against the Americans...1794 or thereabouts.
The natives later agreed to cede the land to Canada,IF they were given due compensation...that didn't happen.
It's long past time that the feds and the Natives got all their land claims settled....how long do negotiations have to go on?

Now, I will apologize if anyone gets offended by this but I am going to enjoy getting after these 'non-native' protestors.

First off, it is aboriginal land, and it was a much larger area nearly 3,600 hectares of land and now over the years, by federal or provincial fair or unfair tactics, it hasn't been found out, but since they want to settle quickly they probably used illegal tactics to get the land. Want to settle quickly.

And there isn't just hundreds of native protestors, there are also dozens if not hundreds of white or non-native supporters as well.

And then you get some shithead, white teenagers claiming some crap, and claiming they are none violent and then they go and attack some cops in a police car.

I think the police should have let them go so the Natives could teach them a lesson.

They claim the natives are criminals and don't deserve rights, these non-native people don't deserve rights if they act in that way and deserve to be treated as criminals.

I heard the protestors were hostile to the mayor who was apart of the criminal mob that tried to attack them, and had claimed they were innocent, the non-natives at Caledonia are the criminals and should all be arrested because they broke the law and attacked the police.

I am glad they chased the mayor away, good native protestors.

Caledonian, non-native people are just redneck hicks, that seem to be intent on keeping the aboriginal population down.

They are the criminals, and deserve to be arrested.

Thats unfair calling them all "redneck hicks". Do you know or even seen all of them, their children, the teenagers everybody else you lumbed into being a "red neck hick" thats like saying "all natives are homeless drunkies".

However with that said I support our native peoples 100%. The only land natives tend to get in settlemts here too is more or less usless land and always a lot less then they ask for and always at the point of saying if you don't take this agreement you will get nothing.

The major ( a woman) was hassled because she said that the native protestors should just go home and collect their welfare checks or something to that effect.....Luckily the rest of the council quickly removed her and apologized

I am not sure that all of the townspeople are rednecks in this case. I think sadly the non natives have been caught up by the government mismanagement. The land was sold to a developer, apparently without knowledge of the dispute, and he all ready has built houses on it, so some people have all ready put their life savings into it. So it is a real mess financially now as to who gets what and who is responsible for the financial loss. As I see it, if the natives claim is genuine then the city will have to pay back the developer and the people who bought houses.
