Hi! I'm a graduate student in New York, and I am writing a paper about Canadian education. I am very interested in what I have learned so far, and was wondering if anyone could help me out by giving me some information or opinions.

I am looking for things like a brief overview of how education is organized and set-up in Canada (I understand not every system is identical), any personal views of education, the importance/value of education, if anyone could compare it to education in the United States, or any hot topics in current education.

Where I attend school, in Buffalo, NY, many Canadian students come from Ontario to get their teaching certificates in the U.S. and then return to Ontario to teach, because it is less expensive and there are fewer requirements. Has anyone participated in a program like this?

Thank you so much! Your answers are greatly appreciated!!!

In my school, the largest concern is standardized testing, and whether or not there should be high-stakes tests for math and English, and if the students do not pass these exams, then they do not graduate from secondary school. Is there such an emphasis on tests in Canada?

Also, is there a big push for students to continue on to a post-secondary education?

Michelle,

I am aware that Ontario introduced standardized testing several years ago for grade's 6 and 10, each level of schooling (elementary and secondary).

I don't exactly know what the tests contain, but I'm sure it includes maths, sciences, and english.
