MONTREAL — A Quebec man accused of dousing his ex-girlfriend with acid last year pleaded guilty to aggravated assault Thursday.
Nikolas Stefanatos has been detained since his arrest last year after Tanya St. Arnauld, 30, was attacked in Longueuil in August 2012.
Stefanatos poured acidic concrete cleaner over St. Arnauld as she stood on the front steps of her apartment.
She suffered burns over 20% of her body. The former hairdresser was in a coma and has since undergone several excruciating skin grafts, including on her scalp.
"Every detail, every sound, even the acid smell ... that's what I see all day," the 29-year-old hairdresser told QMI Agency's French news channel LCN in 2013.
She remembered running into her neighbours' apartment, screaming frantically.
As the acid burned though layers of skin, St. Arnauld expected to die and started reflecting on her life.
"I thought about the little things, that I hadn't seen my mother that day, my regrets, things I'd missed," she said.
"The things you take for granted ... it's taken away in a split second."

okay, he pleaded guilty, and what is going to happen now

as far as I am concerned this is akin to murder and he should be placed in an institution of some kind for a very, very long time, indefinitely in fact
