Quadruple amputee Craig Mackinlay today made an emotional return to the House of Commons.

The Tory MP for South Thanet, 57, said "this is an emotional day for me" as he thanked Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. He received a rare Commons standing ovation.

Earlier this year, Mackinlay's lower arms and legs were amputated after he contracted sepsis.

The MP expressed his desire to be known as the first "bionic MP" as typical British humour was shown...

Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle joked "As you know, we don't allow clapping... but this is an exception" as Mackinlay received a rare standing ovation.

Mackinlay and Prime Minister Sunak also paid tribute to the NHS for saving Mackinlay's life and fitting him with hi-tech prosthetics...

The Tory MP has shared footage of himself in hospital in order to help raise awareness of sepsis among the British people and to highlight the wonders that healthcare in the world's 6th richest country can achieve.

In most countries, anybody suffering sepsis as severe as Mackinlay's would likely die.

Mackinlay takes his horrific ordeal with typical British stoicism.
