The King's sister Princess Anne has named Tom Daley and Helen Glover as Great Britain's official flag bearers at the 2024 Paris Olympics which start this week. It's not a long journey for the British team - just 20 miles over the Channel is all the journey took.

The Princess Royal, who is immensely popular with the British public for her immense work ethic for her country, and who is the President of the British Olympic Association, made the announcement at the British ambassador's residence in Paris.

The Olympics is one of the few sporting events in which Great Britain competes as a whole nation rather than each of its four main constituent parts, which means it hardly ever takes part in the Olympics football tournament despite pressure from FIFA.

This is because Britain invented most major sports and so initially competed amongst her four constituent nations and that's how it's been ever since. That's what happens when you were the greatest country on Earth not long ago.

As usual, Great Britain will likely finish in the top three or four of the medals table.
