The Heir to the Throne saluted more than 100 new Royal Navy officers at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, Devon, on Thursday.

As usual, Britain's next monarch, Prince William, 41, performed his national duty with aplomb and a cheery grin.

"Passing out parade?" I've known a few to faint on parade, but to PLAN it?!?!?!

Brits are weird.

Kidding, Blackie. Congrats to all the new officers in the most iconic navy ever to set sail!

I'm a former Royal Navy man. I had my passing out parade back in '98. We didn't have anyone as high up as Prince William attending that day at HMS Raleigh but I remember a load of my family members watching the proceedings up in the grandstands. I remember us all throwing our caps in the air as students do at graduation ceremonies.

We may get crossways occasionally (or a lot), but I honor and respect that.

Were you an officer or a swabbie? I'm not sure whether "passing out parades" apply to enlisted men.

So does everyone just sorta lay around at a passing out parade? Asking for a friend.
