Support is pouring in for a Victoria, B.C., man who will have to say goodbye to his wife the day their son is born.
On Dec. 28, Robyn Benson suffered a sudden hemorrhage of blood to her brain, her husband Dylan Benson wrote on the fundraising website YouCaring.com.
She was 22 weeks pregnant.
"Devastatingly, my wife, Robyn, became brain dead," Dylan Benson wrote.
He made the decision with doctors to keep Robyn's body alive until she was at or as close to 34 weeks as possible, when a caesarean section could be done and their son, Iver Cohen, would have a better chance of surviving.
Benson was hoping to raise $36,000 — the amount of his wife's annual wages — but as of Tuesday morning, he had raised more than $75,000.
In an update Monday, he wrote he was "overwhelmed" by the support, not just from friends and family, but from across the country and globe.

A pregnant Victoria, B.C., woman declared brain dead and kept alive on life-support for six weeks gave birth to her son Saturday but passed away the following day.
Robyn Benson, 32, was just 22 weeks pregnant when she complained of a headache and then collapsed on her bathroom floor Dec. 28, according to postings on a blog and fundraising site by her husband Dylan Benson. Her fetus, already named Iver Cohen Benson, continued to grow in the womb.
Dylan Benson posted the bittersweet life-and-death news on his Facebook page Monday night.
"On Saturday evening, my beautiful and amazing son, Iver Cohen Benson, was born," he wrote. "Iver is healthy and is the cutest and most precious person I have ever met. As to be expected, it will still be a bumpy ride for he and I as he continues to grow under the care of the wonderful staff at the hospital.
"On Sunday, we had to unfortunately say goodbye to the strongest and most wonderful woman I have ever met. I miss Robyn more than words can explain. I could not be more impressed with her strength, and I am so lucky to have known her. She will live on forever within Iver, and in my heart."
Robyn was kept alive for six weeks so the couple's child would have a better chance of survival at 34 weeks in the womb and be delivered by cesarean section.
