Pope to host summit with Muslims

The Pope has sought to improve ties since his Regensburg speech

Pope Benedict XVI will host landmark Catholic-Muslim talks in November to improve ties between the two religions.
The announcement was made in a joint statement after a two-day meeting between senior Vatican and Muslim leaders in Rome.
Catholic-Muslim relations soured after a 2006 speech in Germany in which the Pope quoted a 14th Century Byzantine emperor's criticisms of Islam.
The Regensburg speech provoked Muslim fury and triggered protests worldwide.
But it also prompted 138 Muslim scholars from 43 countries to launch an appeal to the Pope for greater theological dialogue, called the Common Word.
The joint statement said the first Catholic-Muslim summit would be held in Rome on 4-6 November and would involve 24 religious leaders and scholars from each side.
It said the Pope would address the meeting on the themes of "Love of God, Love of Neighbour", "Theological and Spiritual Foundation" and "Human Dignity and Mutual Respect".

How nice!! That is the way to disband misunderstandings, hatred, suspicions and fear of one another. "Love of Neighbor" includes the Muslims and acceptance of their beliefs. Of course, it should work the other way around as well. But someone has to make the start.

If now only the Americans would look in the mirror! Bush, head of the Great American Empire, should make the same effort as the Pope. The world would be a safer place in no time!! Lead by example, big guys!!

Well this article which I have heard about in the general media and read at CNS, ( Catholic News Service ) is touching upon centuries and centuries of very interesting ideas.

The compromise of the Catholic Church towards the pressures of Islam in Europe is
" interesting " ?

I remember this Pope in Constantinople, in the Mosque, on TV, the Iman looked at him, the look was, " DO IT ", the Pope, bowed his head and prayed to God. Later he entered into a museum which used to be the Christian Church of St. Sopia, and lo and behold, no mention of a prayer to God there !

Are you asking me? I'm innocent! All I found of interest is that the leaders of two opposing religions are going to meet for talks. They should show the world by example how to have differing beliefs, but still be kind enough to respect and communicate with each other.

perhaps he truly didn't pray there, or WHY must it be mentioned, as it is likely something he does all the time anyway?

Well dance, I appreciate your comments and apologize for my delay.

The crux of the matter is based in " hypocracy ". The proclcaimed " true Church of God "
with the proclaimed " true Vicar of Christ " bows his head in a Mosque and prays. He is in effect giving...................... to Islam.............................. what ? Legitimacy ?
