Well my boyfriend and i are planning on moving to Alberta within the year. The employment and housing costs are not comparable to BC! 8O

Now, here is the bind we're in.

We have no idea where to start. Which cities to visit etc.... We want a nice small town, nothing too busy, with the basic needs, but some place that is still close to the city.

I have been looking at St.Paul, Vergersville and Medicine Hat. A lot of housing opportunites in all 3 locations. Anyone live there? been there? Can tell me about these places.

OR.... If you have any other locations in mind, please let me know!
Any advice at this point would be much appreciated!!

We are taking a trip out that way at the end of September to do some exploring and job searching....

Thanks in advanced! :)

I'm in Vegreville for another 4 days after i spent the last 8 years of my life. Things are on the move after years of stagnation, Wal-mart is coming, I heard of a call centre coming to town, the Immigration Case Processing Centre is hiring like crazy, housing prices has doubled in the last 3 years.

Never been to Medicine Hat but I would say St-Paul is a much prettier town, don't know about the work situation though. In Veg, you will have to rely on Edmonton for your entertainment 'cause there is not much to do here, on the plus side, Edmonton is only an hour away.

I would choose Medicine Hate over Lethbridge if your considering moving to the South. I would also throw in Red Deer, and if your coming for a visit you should check it out. I guess all three are medium sized growing cities, so they do not compare to Vegreville and St Paul.

I have never been to St Paul, but I know its up around Cold Lake, so I would recommend you pay a visit if you in the area. I have been fishing on Cold Lake before and payed a visit to the town, its a nice friendly place.

Medicine Hate? Freudian slip there Hank? I'd go for Lethbridge over Medicine Hat any day, much prettier geography around it and usually a better climate. But really, my first choice in Alberta would be Edmonton. It's like a bigger version of Saskatoon, where I grew up: big river, bridges, parks, a government and university town that doesn't have the frenetic pace or the ego of Calgary, one of the nicer big cities in this country, and anything you could possibly want is readily available there. Dining, dancing, shopping, live theatre, sporting events, jazz, blues, and rock music, from the top level right down to the bottom level of strip joints and whorehouses. I lived there for a few years while I was going to university and liked it a lot, it's a good city to live in. One of my four brothers lives there and would tell you the same thing.

Gawd I must be tired and stupid to write something like that. I have only three brothers, I'm the fourth.

Thanks for the information everyone! I appreciate it!

I don't think i will be stopping in Edmonton, the mall is tempting yes, but its not required! I need to make this a productive vacation.

Does anyone know approx. How far St.Paul is from Cold Lake, and then how far from Edmonton?

I can't wait to check it out.
