Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medals

It was said today at Rideau Hall, by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., that those in Canada who work as peace officers in our domestic setting are often overlooked. To that end, Her Excellency has created the Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medal, to recognize those who dedicate themselves to protecting us within Canada, and to inspire others to better themselves.

Her Excellency the Rt. Hon. Michaëlle Jean[/color], C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D.,]There are many elements that make Canada great—like its rich cultural diversity, its linguistic duality, and the strong sense of community that binds people together.

However, there are three in particular that I would like to highlight today, and they are our country’s unsurpassed natural beauty, our open, compassionate society and the rule of law.

Ladies and gentlemen, through your experiences and your unswerving dedication to duty, you have certainly set a very high standard for those who will follow you.

On behalf of our fellow citizens, I thank you for your exemplary service.

I am quite happy to see that Her Excellency, our domestic representative of Her Majesty the Queen of Canada, is endeavouring to continue to recognize those who make this nation such a great place to live. I applaud the vocal nature in which the Governor General has been bringing issues such as these to the forefront — she has continued to honour peace officers, the Canadian Forces, and everyone else who places themselves at risk for the service and the greater good of Canada.

Since my father was a peace officer and his partner was killed. I am glad these medals are coming out.

I am sorry to hear that your father's partner lost his life, Jersay.

On that token, it should be noted that these medals can be awarded posthumously.

And it is unknown if the quards killed her in the standoff at B.C penn or prisoners.

It saddens me that something like that occurred here in the Province of British Columbia; however, these things do happen, from time to time (unfortunately), and I am happy to see that in recent months these persons' contributions are being more actively thrusted into the limelight.

Agreed. My father I believe went to the memorial that was created in Ottawa in 1994 for Peace Officers. And I believe laid a flower I am not to sure. At least these peace officers are finally getting some respect and dignity and acknowledgement.
