SAINT-GEORGES, Que. — The parents of two girls who died in allegedly botched tonsillectomies are suing three doctors for more than $1 million.
Lorie Boulanger and Marika Patry died from hemorrhaging in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
Lorie was four years old when she underwent a tonsillectomy on February 2, 2012, at St. George's Hospital, three hours east of Montreal.
She died nine days later.
Marika, 5, had the same operation on April 29, 2013, at the same hospital. Her condition deteriorated and she died in a Quebec City hospital six days later.
Dr. Marianne Lachance performed both operations.
Lorie Boulanger's parents are demanding $491,000 in damages from Lachance, accusing her of performing the wrong surgical technique as well as improper monitoring.
Maika Patry's parents are suing the surgeon for $576,000. They're also suing two doctors at the Quebec City hospital, Jacques Leclerc and Renald Ferland, for alleged improper diagnosis.
