the One Tonne Challenge Program was good, it got people involved personally, and the results could have been significant, tradeable as carbon credits.

Harperites are going to ensure the worst effects of climate change/severe weather will occur. I don't know why, its absolutely insane.

Ottawa stops funding One Tonne Challenge:

One Tonne Challenge snuffed out :
http://tinyurl.com/gn22y

"The new Conservative government has pulled the plug on the One Tonne Challenge by eliminating its funding. via the Globe & Mail:
The new Conservative government in Ottawa has abruptly stopped funding groups across the country that have been promoting the One Tonne Challenge, the program to persuade Canadians to do their bit to help the environment by cutting their greenhouse gas emissions.

More than that, the article claims that the government is "also reviewing about 100 other climate-change programs set up by the previous Liberal government."

To be fair:
Canadian Government Website:
"A Breath of Fresh Air: Made in Canada Solutions to Meet Canada's Environmental Challenges" [March 2006]

- Minister of the Environment speach -
http://tinyurl.com/louhg

"We will clean up the air that Canadians breathe by encouraging them to get out of their cars and onto public transit, by providing a federal tax credit to offset part of the cost of monthly transit passes. Increasing the use of public transit will help reduce traffic congestion in Canadian cities, reduce greenhouse gases and fight pollution.

I do understand though that we will not get everyone out of their cars"

K - funny, right?
-more at the link, he goes on to say :
"This is why we will help Canadians make cleaner fuel choices by increasing the average renewable fuel content in gasoline and diesel fuel to 5% by 2010."

K - and thats the ONLY action being considered for Canada's part to fight Global Warming!!!
Oh my gawd - Get out of your cars!!

I think everyone got the message....

Perhaps we can direct that money else where?

Karlin; it's frustrating in this day and age so little is being done to keep the environment clean. I'm lucky I live in a town where it's mandatory to recycle. We have green bins, blue bags composters are given out freely etc. Hopefully we will be pesticide free soon. I find the best approach is to educate your friends, family and neighbours. There is no reason to be plying your lawn with chemicals because the green approach works just as well.

I once had a neighbour that was a Doctor who would have a lawn service come once a month a put some toxic crap on his immaculate lawn to keep it green and weed free. I asked him to please inform me when he was going to spray because I didn't want to be around when the chemicals are sprayed and he asked me "Why," so I told him "That stuff is toxic and has been linked to cancer in children." After further debate a frustrated me says to him when you wake up with a third testicle you at least will know what caused it. He stopped using the chemicals after that.

Good lord how can managing you house hold resourses and not using chemical on your property be Anti-Corporation. What do they want my discarded dandilions, hell they can have them. In NFL the neighbours would eat them and they called them Greens.
