For me, it brings to mind the case of Jeremy Hinzman...and how American and Canadian servicemen cast aspersions at him for being a deserter and a traitor to his country...well from what I read in that article, it wouldn't have mattered one bit if he had stayed with his unit and went to Iraq...they would have found a way to get him in the end, just because he had applied for CO status..

I wonder how many contientious objector applications they've approved since the war began...

If i wanted to serve my country by joining any of the Armed Forces and didn't believe in killing,I'd have joined one of the service corps or taken medical training..and I would have never believed what the recruiters told me.The Services have to make an example of him,just to keep others from following his example.A very sad story.
