Oh, What Canada Might Have Been!

Glancing through the texts of the fabled Wikipedia.org today, I came across a list of names that delegates at our conferences in relation to Confederation had considered, in lieu of Canada. Some of them are downright frighteningly — er, "creative", let's say.

• Hochelega, an older name for Montréal
• Laurentia
• Mesopelagia, meaning "land between the seas"
• Norland
• Superior
• Tuponia
• Vesperia
• Victorialand, in honour of Her Majesty the late Queen Victoria

If we had to rename Canada to one of the names above, which would you choose?

I was thinking something more along the lines of the Dominion of Paradoxical Cupcakes, but yours sounds good, too.

Sassyland . . . Dominion of Paradoxical Cupcakes, my god, how could one decide between such great names? :lol:

We could convene the Board of Directors to decide!

Or, we could petition the House of Commons to set up a Committee to study the naming proposals, and we could get a Commissioner, and an Inquery, and some Orders-in-Council, and a bunch'a neat things like that!

I'd go for Norland. It's simple and a pretty good description.

Just to throw the world, and our neighbours to the south, into a tizzy, we could name ourselves "America", or to really confuse things "North America" or "Northern America".

Looking over that list I gotta say that we are pretty darn lucky to have ended up with a decent name like Canada.............. although Superior would of been a cool name!

Mesopelagia, because it actually means something related to Canada.

Though I think Canada is a pretty ok name.

Maybe I just lack imagination, but I can't picture it as anything but Canada! Norland is pretty cool, though.
