Hey Blackleaf, you seem like a bright guy interested in a lot of things. Have you ever visited the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre? I realized from some of your other posts that identify approximately where you live (Little Lever) that you're fairly close to it, around 25 miles almost due north of it, though looking at the tangle of roadways around Greater Manchester it's probably a much longer drive than that. That was once the biggest steerable dish radio telescope on the planet, and it's still number 3 after over 60 years in service. It's certainly a place I'd visit if I were that close to it, and I assume from your OP here that interesting new findings from radio astronomy get your attention.

I went to Jodrell Bank in 1991 with my family when I was 10. I remember being stood right underneath the Lovell Telescope with my parents and brother and sister and it was on huge metallic wheels on a circular track. Then my dad noticed that the wheels were moving but very, very, slowly. Then suddenly it started to move quickly and the whole thing started to swivel round, making a roaring noise as it went, and we just just there underneath it as it turned round, awestruck. Then we went into the visitor centre and you could buy meteorites and Moon rock. I wanted some Moon rock but my parents wouldn't let me have it. Jodrell Bank is near Macclesfield in Cheshire but it's part of the University of Manchester. You can actually see it from some areas of Bolton on clear enough days. In fact, my grandmother and her Scouse boyfriend - who we also used to call "granddad" - lived in the Breightmet area of Bolton back in the Nineties and you could see Jodrell Bank from their back garden! I keep meaning to go and visit again sometime - it's only a short journey on the train.
