is "throw[ing] his weight around" to lobby for a college football playoff season, a promise he made at the end of a November 2008 60 Minutes interview. And sure enough, Bowl Championship Series presidents approved a playoff season this week.

While Obama didn't have any part in negotiations for a playoff season, "[h]is use of the bully pulpit did help", said Matthew Sanderson, a spokesman for PlayoffPAC.

I figured after health care reform, Obama deserves reporting on an easy, pop culture-y accomplishment.

What the hell is he doing worrying about college freakin football. Is everything so right with the economy, that's the most pressing issue?

It's a culture thing, like when the media asks him what movies are his favorites or if he'll attend the National Book Festival or something like that. Presidents can't be all serious issues all the time.

A lot of wealthy elites have demanded a playoff as it means another $350 million for college football. Those elites own the NCAA as well as NFL and they always get what they want.
