No kidding eh.

If there was real time tracking (cookies) of a viewers' remote/cable set-up, I wouldn't believe any of the hipster claptrap coming from this so-called ratings agency.

I'd have no trouble allowing an entity to view my history and favorites. They'd see the usual 10 or so 'good channels', the mute button pushed if necessary on idiotic commercials and what shows I record. Anyway, I hope this is just the tip of this stinky iceberg...

New Delhi Television Limited, India's oldest and largest news network, has lobbed a legal grenade at The Nielsen Co.

In a 194-page lawsuit filed in New York court late last week, NDTV accuses Nielsen of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act by manipulating viewership data in favor of channels that are willing to provide bribes to its officials.

According to NDTV, rampant manipulation of viewership data has been going on for eight years, and when presented with evidence earlier this year, top executives at Nielsen pledged to make changes. But the Indian news giant says these promises have been false ones.

The Indian company is now seeking billions of dollars in damages from Nielsen, looking to punish its top corporate officers and demanding that Nielsen essentially be kicked out of the country.

They'd be bored tracking the amount of tv we watch here. Probably only a couple hours a day. 99% of ads are stupid enough to be annoying so the products are not used here. 80 - 85% of the programming is absolute garbage, so same thing applies - we avoid it.

Actually TV as we knew it is not quite dead yet. There are millions still watching TV.
The problem is the focus of TV has changed and for the worse not the better.
Television today features programs as fillers only including the news and public
affairs programs. The so called reality TV is not reality and it cheap with little of the
old entertainment value. The news is more about entertainment as the TV hosts and
hostesses attempt to be visual radio personalities. Its fluff posing as hard news and
people know it.
Social media might have a lot of advantages but it has no scrutiny and facts are often
not checked. I wouldn't say TV is dead or social media has taken over I would say
access to the unvarnished truth is dead and that is the sad truth.
