New names for SSM

Twila pointed out that SSM reminds her of S&M just because of the initials. Since we still seem to be silly enough to have a need to differentiate I thought we should come up with some new names.

We need something that isn't stupid or gay-bashing or just plain old boring, something that is enough that people will use it but will fall easily away once we grow up.

Suggestions?

NSM- Non Straight Marriage?

AM- Alternative Marriage?

COM- Canadian Only Marriage?

AHM- Anti Harper Marriage?



I don't know, SSM will be hard to get rid of though wouldn't it? as it is so ingrained into our society and heads?

Lots of things are hard to get rid of...the danger is that we've inadvertently created a politically correct way for people to express their prejudices.

Most of all though, I think this could be a dandy way to make fun of homophobes. If anybody ever needed to be ridiculed....

I am coming up on my 33rd Anniversary this July, and Gays getting married has meant as much to MY relationship as the dust between a flea's toes.

And what's wrong with being silly? Do you have any idea what happens when you stop being silly? You grow old. And not just any kind of old either. No....you get...icky grouchy non tolerant old.......


I think Cosmo has it right. It's called Marriage. And it's not any of my business or anyone elses business if both parties have the same type of genitalia. Nor do I care what type of genitalia they have. If we give it a special name then we'll have to give non same sex marriages a special name...just so we can differentiate..cause we all know how much we all like to be differentiated from others. We all want to know just what is going on in the house next door...as if we had some kind of right to know. Bah. It's all really stupid.

But the premise of this thread is that just calling it marriage would indicate that we are no longer being silly. That would indicate that we would become, "icky grouchy non tolerant old.......," thus tossing us back to the beginning and starting the whole thing over. It's a vicious circle.

Maybe we could apply Ten Packs' suggestion to all marriages, regardless of gender, thereby retaining the child-like advantages without becoming, "icky grouchy non tolerant old....... "

Oh man I'm slow. It took me ages to figure out what SSM meant. I got the marriage part, but the SS part... that took awhile. Same Sex. Gotcha.

It's been a long day....

I say we go with plain old Marriage. Of course, here in the States we'll never see Same Sex Marriages legalized. Sure, it sorta is in some places, but it won't last. Not while the Grand Old Party is in power.
