Starting July 1st 2010 (same date as the implementation of the HST) Ontario has a new set of eco fees.

They start as low as .01 penny all the way up to five bucks. We now pay for every aerosol can, computer, laundry detergent, dish soap etc.

Did you know if you want to make your own cleaner you still have to pay an eco fee for baking soda?

Did you know that an environmentally safe detergent has the same eco fee ad a harsh chemical one?

Did you know there is now an eco fee on Vitamins and Minerals?
I GUESS THEY NEED TO RECYCLE THEM WHEN THEY COME OUT IN OUR POOP.

Another ridiculous tax grab :-(

It's about time. Maybe this century ON will start collecting a deposit and give a return on cans and bottles. It's a better income than panhandling for many street types.

There are many pissed off companies because of this. While we, as the taxpaying public, have absolutely NO clout, the companies do. If they raise a big enough stink, I think positive things with regards to this pathetic tax-grab will occur.

I truly hope there is a special place in Hell for that piece of garbage, McSquinty.

TORONTO - The Ontario government has repealed its eco fee nearly three weeks after the controversial levy was slapped on thousands of new household products.

Environment Minister John Gerretsen says he’s scrapping the fee, but the waste diversion program that it funded will continue.

The government signalled its reversal shortly after Canadian Tire announced it would stop charging the fee because the program was too confusing.

The retailing giant said the program suffered from a botched rollout and was poorly handled by everyone involved, including the government.

The Liberals gave an industry-led organization, Stewardship Ontario, the power to collect the fees to fund a recycling program that diverts potentially hazardous items from landfills.

But there was no public warning that the eco fee, which was first introduced in 2008, would be slapped on thousands of new items July 1, such as fire extinguishers and household cleaners.

Don't worry, it will just be added again later once we receive 'ample preparation'
