Funny...I seem to remember a lot of government involvment with all those pipelines. I also remember a lot of government subsidies going to develop the industry in the first place. Of couse we still subsidize the oil, gas, and coal industries to the tune of $1.2 billion or so a year. There are also the hidden subsidies that go into infrastructure like roads to haul the stuff on. Bud the Spud doesn't get to Jay's table through magic, it's hauled there. Same with the wheat his bread is made out of, and the dead cow that fills up the rest of his plate.
The point is that we are one country, not Ontario and Alberta and Quebec and whoever the hell else is bitching this week. This crap about who is a have province and who isn't is stupid. We are one country, not 10 or 13. We aren't five or six separate regions.

What Canada? The federal Liberal government has become a farce, interested only in retaining power. "Equalization payments", official bilingualism, changes to EI, the "Atlantic Accord".... seems like all policy announcements are to curry favour with one region over the other.
It does not matter who is in power...its always the same results and maybe a different policy (to screw up or with). From the amount of time spent in power, I'm sure NDP has treated BC well as have the Conservatives in Alberta but I still can not picture Jack Layton or Steven Harper as our PM. Ed Brodbent quit too soon.....
Ed Brodbent won in his riding in the last election. I agree that he would of made a good leader for Canada.
And why would anyone have to thank someone from Ontario? Does Ontario ever thank the rest of the country for buying there goods. Does Alberta thank the rest of Canada for buying there oil? Thank Canada, not your province.

He also had a cool rap video. I don't know if it's still available on the internet. He would have have made a good leader in his time, but he is no longer a leader for today. He's made that clear in a couple of interviews.
He is still an excellent MP (watch him in committee on CPAC if you get a chance) though, and his advice is considered to be very valuable. He's also very funny.
Right now I'm wishing that he'd tell Jack to get out in front of the cameras more. Layton is falling into that old trap of ef expecting the press to pay attention to him simply because he sends out press releases. That may work for the Liberals and Conservatives, but it's never worked for the NDP or other parties who don't kow-tow to the corporate agenda...if they want to make the news, they have to go the extra mile.
Jack knows that...it's why the NDP went up so much in the polls last election. Before the election, if there was a camera he was in front of it. It got people to look at the platform and the real record and a lot of people switched over. Now he politely waits for the press to come to him and you don't see Jack on the news as much.
