On that 1838 photo of a Paris street if you look carefully enough you can see the first human being to ever appear in a photograph. He's a man who was standing still for a while whilst having his shoes polished. Some say you can also see the polisher, but I'm not sure.
The street must have been full of horse-drawn traffic and people, but you can't see it because it was moving.
