A Japanese man almost died after suffering a stroke moments after he finished masturbating — a habit he reportedly enjoyed several times a day.
Doctors have found that sexual intercourse can cause strokes, so they wanted to learn if masturbation triggers the same reaction.
Their research found that along with having sex, it can happen with masturbation too — not to mention activities as simple as coughing and going to the bathroom.
According to the study published in the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, the man immediately experienced “thunderclap” headaches after completing his session, and later began vomiting.
The sudden symptoms concerned the man, who reportedly took himself to Nagoya City University Hospital where doctors picked up on his low blood pressure and disorientation — two signs of a stroke.
A CT scan was performed and the doctors reported the right-handed 51-year-old “developed a subarachnoid hemorrhage during masturbation.”
After monitoring him for nine days, he required a dissection of his left internal carotid artery, which was treated with stenting and coiling, according to the study.
The man survived and was discharged from hospital with a good prognosis.
He may have to pick up a new habit, though.
