Hello friends,
This is a longshot but what the hell. In appx 1974 or so I hitchhiked accross Canada leaving from Toronto. I was living on Walmer Rd there and met a black fellow who called himself Buddha George. I met him one day working a day labor job. He came up to me and
introduced himself. He could see that I had been having emotional difficulties which he sympathized with. He understood me and took it upon himself to help me. His story was quite remarkable. He always thought there had to be more to life. He devised his own method of meditation whereby he laid down and followed the felt current of energy in his body. One day he found himself in another realm which he could only explain to me as "bible times" . In fear he took himself to the local mental instituition (can't remember the name) where he gave his story to the intake person on duty. Luckily for George the person told him he wasn't crazy and that he was having a spiritual experience. He told him to relax and go with it and not to be afraid. In any case George was a very sensitive individual who helped me get over my own disabling fear of life. One day he suggested we take a little trip which quickly turned into a cross county trip that landed us in Vancouver where I met an old friend, lived on Wreck Beach for 3 months and began a spiritual search which ended up with me living in California for the next 30 years. George found Wreck Beach to be too casual a scene for him and we parted company. He once told me that he could feel the energy of a woman from a block away. The nude beach was not for him. I will always be grateful to him for the part he played in bringing me to the west coast and starting my new life. Unfortunately I didn't know his last name and don't know how I could track him down. I don't know how long he went by Buddha George; it may have only been short lived. He did intimate that he had an interest in checking out New Orleans. Anyway, I found this site by accident when I was doing a little research on Yorkville where I lived for a while in the early 70's. I'm also interested in talking to anyone who lived there as well because I lived with another remarkable character by the name of Howard Smith (try to research that name!) Anyone out there have any ideas?
