Telus International Calls?(or any other service provider)

First I have to apologize, I know very little about the setup's and worksing of phone networking in every aspect, so bare with me if I say something completely simple and stupid.

Does Telus offer international calls? I want to call my friend over in Europe, but I can't find a package or a pay as you go option or much on their site. I probably am not looking hard enough, it's a bit tedious for me to find, their site is good, but.. I'm not sure where to look. At any rate, I am curious if they offer that, I mean they must, it's such a necessisity in todays World. I am currently on a 3 year contract with them, and I am regretting being chained to that, but whatever, live and learn I suppose.

I suppose another question is, since I am on a contract with them, can I add other options to that? I can't see why that would be a problem, but I figured I might aswell ask.

Also, if they do not offer what I require, is it possible to do it another way while still using the same cell phone with their service? Maybe some sort of thing I can do to have two services on the one cell, or someway of switching from Telus's service and use a sort of pay as you go service. I'm not sure, I heard something about a Chip you can put in the back?(I figure that's for all services, but I mean one that is basically just for the amount of Time you use, and no contracts or anything like that. Sorry, that part might not make sense, but thought I'd throw it out)

Anyhow. This is important to me to find a way to do this. If telus doesn't offer it, then maybe I need to somehow get another service on my Cell aswell. I am kinda stressed for cash, and I figure every single cell user wants the best deal so saying the cheaper the better is kinda obvious. I'm not sure of the rates, I'll have to keep browsing, I hope they're not over $1.50 a minute, because that's brutal in itself, but a reality I suppose.

International Calls with a cell Phone. If anyone has any information and doesn't mind sharing it I would greatly appricate it. I am going to browse this site a bit more, and try telus's site again, and possibly Rogers and any other ones. Wanted to get these questions out and hear responces from real people, not people working for a service :S. Tend to get blurred true/lie answers. anyways, thanks for reading. I apologize if there is a thread above or below this one with the direct answer to my question(s), hard to sift through some of the terminology, I'll learn it, but right now it is foreign to me, and all I want is a damn service to foreign countries :(

Cheers

Re: Telus International Calls?(or any other service provider

Does Telus offer international calls?

yes you can find the rates by registering your accountat mytelusmobility and clicking on services. FYI it is expensive and they do not offer international calling bundles(no provider does), the cheapest LD rates to foreign countries is fido. telus, rogers and fido are all similar in rates. You wont eb able to use discount calling card with your wireless service. I tried it once and got the regular charges.

since I am on a contract with them, can I add other options to that?

actually telus is the first cellfone company to offer an online self-serve for changing features, checking airtime usage(24 hour updates), detailed billing in html format, changing price plans and even hardware exchanges(if your eligible). you can change to any plan except promotionary plans twice a year without any incremental cost. SO yes you can change features, plans and even add-a-line if your so inclined.

is it possible to do it another way while still using the same cell phone with their service?

unfortunately no, telus doesnt use sim cards(the card you put into the back of the phone and it would be useless anwyays as you would be paying for 2 services instead of one.

You should be able to call 611 and get them to enable international calling on your phone. Usually you require some tenure with a company before they allow you to do this though. What I do instead is get a calling card, program it into my cell phone, and make international calls that way. It's a heck of a lot cheaper and you won't get surprise cell bills at the end of the month. I actually do this for all long distance calls. I used to work for customer service for Cingular in the states (their call centers are in canada) and I saw countless accounts of customers having outrageous bills b/c of international calls as they charge usually over $1.00 per minute.
hope that helps.

Oh I aplogize, I completely forgot to check back here.

Thankyou for the replies. Yeah Telus stood their ground and said I have to wait till after 6months of using their service before I can gain access to international calls, yet I am on a three year contract with them. Oh well their system. I ended up acquireing calling cards instead, "Vox Ultra", it's $20 for about 35-40 minutes, not bad at all in my opinion, still going to break my bank account, but it's worth it.

Thanks for the replies, I really appicate them.
