The King has arrived at Westminster Hall, the oldest part of the Houses of Parliament, for a celebratory Coronation reception.

He will meet senior members of the Houses of Parliament including the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Leader of the Opposition Sir Keir Starmer.

Later he will be joined by the Queen Consort to discuss issues close to their hearts with parliamentarians including agriculture, communities, and literacy.

The Coronation takes place on the second successive Bank Holiday weekend with celebrations and street parties set to take place across the country.

Now that he is monarch, there is one area of the Houses of Parliament that he is not allowed to step foot in: the House of Commons.

The British monarch is barred from entering the Commons.

The King and Queen Consort - who will be referred to as "the Queen" from the moment she is crowned on Saturday - met senior politicians including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Leader of the Opposition Sir Keir Starmer this afternoon at Parliament during a celebratory Coronation reception.

Labour Party leader Starmer was once a republican but has since changed his views.

The King and Queen Consort discussed a number of pressing issues with the MPs.
