Ever tried to shop for the stuff you need and not buy made in China .My wife and I tried buying some christmas dishes last year and it took 2 weeks before we could find something affordable and not made in China.Go shopping and check your labels everythings made in China.I would bet they have a huge surplus with us too.

WalMart buys something near 58 million dollars of "stuff" from China every day of the week. So,it's nearly impossible to compete with them unless other retailers buy from the same source. We have a better position with china as we supply a lot of the materials for the product, while the US does not. I'm sorry, but how does our government bow to China's will? This isn't another of those conspiracy theories,is it?

RE: Is the Liberal party

We are developing an uncomfortably close relationship with China. It isn't just what we from them, but what we sell to them. Our governments, and this goes back to at least Trudeau but has gotten worse in the age of globalization, have steadfastly refused to tie trade to human rights and environmental issues.

So I don't think we're owned by China yet, MrMom. I do think we've gotten some pretty bad lease agreements out with them though.

No doubt. We buy all the little trinkets we can from them, and we certainly have no shortage of their ppl here, in return they get nuclear reactors.

"have steadfastly refused to tie trade to human rights and environmental issues. "

There appears to still be this policy of "if we trade with them, they will come to understand they need to open up to the west, and we then can import our values"

Is it working?

Actually it's oil that's the problem, Jay.

We really don't try to export values beyond greed...er...capitalism.

It has worked to an extent anyway, especially at first, because more open trade has led to the Chinese people seeing what it is like elsewhere. It doesn't work anymore though.

That is the real legacy of globalization though...we teach people to be greedy. It encourages human rights abuses instead of curtailing them. It isn't just China that's the problem, we have similar problems in all of our trade agreements. China is just bigger than most.

Welcome to the club Canada. Lets see if you can shake the Chinese Monkey off your back. Once the cash starts flowing in. Plus they do not need to follow Kyoto because they have developing nation status.

Now do you see why giving China special dispensations and a "Developing Nation" status is insane! If they are a developing nation... so is the USA. Stop being fooled by them.

Quit trying to make every thread about you, EagleSmack. You are the one always whining that we don't criticize the Canadian government. If you'd pay attention to what people say instead of trying to point out, erroneously 99% of the time, how everybody is picking on you, you might actually learn something.

Hmmm.... lets see.... (reading my post)

Nope I can't see how you think that. You are just a little too paranoid and obsessive. Stop acting like a child.

I was just saying that China should be watched.

I wasn't saying "Hey! This post is about me!"

Don't be ridiculous.

I haven't yet developed an opinion about it. I'm unsure as to whether the good outweighs the bad. Whether thisdiversification will sink us or not. My economic knowledge is relatively simple currently.

One day......I'll know more. But you guys just keep on chatting back and forth. I'm trying to learn here.
