This is kind of interesting. Apparently Mercer has made the offer to rent Massey Hall, donate 50K to the charity of debator's choice, produce and moderate a televised debate between Harper and Iggy. Iggy has accepted. I wonder what Harper will do?

I'm not sure how appropriate it may be to have a two party leaders debate in a multi-party system. But it is interesting.

I wonder how he'll be able to do that and still save face.

To refuse? It's easy. He can talk about how the election involves several parties, it's not just Conservatives vs Liberals, etc. There's many ways to explain away his reluctance to face a direct challenge.

Maybe so, and he wouldn't really be wrong. The election does involve several parties. It may dog him though if the press holds on.

Some background HERE.

Rick is my hero.
I like him as well. He's genuinely interested in our Federal politics and takes all parties to task. Plus, I love his rants.

Just not the Green party. LOL.

Yep. Gotta love the education people are unknowingly getting from him.

He is not worried about saving face. He has his right-wing, neo-con support and knows he will get nobody else. It doesn't matter to him anymore.

Wasn't Harpo the first one to ask for a debate with just him and Iggy? How typical for him to backpeddle on that now.

I doubt the PM will decide to accept Rick's offer. I too would love to see a debate hosted by Rick and am also a fan of his rants. It interesting how he is able to slice through all the bs and state things as they are no matter the party on the receiving end.

Truthfully I don't anticipate it happening either. Still, just the fact that the idea has come up is interesting. Instead of the SSDD Federal election we usually get.

On a side note, has anyone else noticed how quiet John Baird has been lately? Seriously, everytime I hear him speaking lately he's almost whispering, even during question period of late.

Harper would lose to the Harvard professor.

It would be better for the Conservative henchmen to talk to Rick Mercer about getting an exclusive interview with Stephen Harper to drop this idea
