The number eight, which sounds like wealth and prosperity in some Chinese dialects, symbolizes good luck and fortune in the Chinese culture.

The Masonic Temple in Toronto is addressed 888 Yonge Street. It is now a CTV facility housing MTV Canada. They have kept the name though. Deliveries there are addressed "Masonic Temple, 888 Yonge Street."

So the Chinese are not the only ones into numerology.
