I need to buy a new TV but am getting conflicting advice. I would like to get one of the new thin TV but many have advised against it, and these are some the reasons they give:
1. it gets hot
2. after approx. 1000 hrs troubles start
3. there are fans in the back to cool it down but the bearings use quickly and start making a loud
noise
4. the technology is not perfected
5. if you have problems service is not great

Your advice will be highly appreciated.

Depends on which type of thin TV you get. There are three basic types.
Plasma, gets hot on the front and doesn't have a very good lifespan.

LCD projection, the most ecanomical choice but it has a big bulb in it that needs that fan. Bulb is also 200 bucks, but the TV itself has a longer lifespan but the picture is not quite as good as the others.

LCD, non projection. Doesn't get too hot and has a bit better lifespan then the plasma. In my opinion it is the best one to get. Plasmas have come down in price but the picture on the LCD is just as good as the plasma.

All in all, most TV's out there are pretty good. Nobody makes them to last a lifetime like the old Sony Trinitron picture tubes, I have two of those, one 25 years old one 18 years old. My LCD looks the best though. Good luck, whichever you choose you will love it.

I have a friend back home in the Uk, she bought one of the first ever colour TVs. It takes five minutes to warm up when you switch it on but it's still running and still good probably 30 or 40 years later.
