I can't obviously know your situation but I commiserate with your frustration. This issues' been batted around before...some say...the bank deserves a fee for managing your money and providing the service...I say that banks are among the highest profit-takers in any of the "free-world" nations and could certainly afford to give folk a break....
I live on a fixed income and don't get around too well...banking and food shopping are demands that I haven't found any easy route around so I do what I must....once a month. Once a month I go to the bank and obtain cash money for things that require cash...my utilities are paid over the Internet and I pay my rent by cheque....
Sometimes the field over which my cash withdrawl from the bank must be spread is too large and I must use a debit card for that transaction...either that or spend considerably more money to get transportation to go to the bank withdraw that six dollars and then find transportation back to the store... gets even more expensive than paying the user fees for debit cards that some businesses charge...
All I know for sure is I'm more often than not broke at the end of the month and my bank manager is laughing it up at the lake on his yacht....go figure..
