I'm listening to the Kalaelies (sp?) on CBC right now. They are some kind of legend, apparently. I've heard my musical friends talk about them and according to the intro on the Vinyl Cafe they are the best thing ever.

So this is happening again. They aren't annoying, but I just don't get what makes them so superior to everybody else. I don't hear it. This seems to happen to me once a year or so...I hear something that all the people that know about music are raving about and I don't get it.

It isn't a matter of liking something or not. I may or not like it, it doesn't matter. It's just that I don't see what makes a particular group super-fantastic-wet-my-pants-wonderful.

Does this happen to the rest of you, too?

Well Rev. I just learned that there is a Marketing council which decides which paint colours are going to be hot for the year.

I had no idea. Maybe theres a marketing council for music and they decide what's going to be hot. That's why you don't get it.

Kind of pissed to learn about the colour marketing council. Makes me feel icky.

This isn't a marketing council thing though. It's almost always some indy band that has broken up or is far enough out of the mainstream that being a commercial success or achieving fame and fortune isn't an issue.

It's more along the lines of there is something arcane that the rest of us (or at least I) don't get about certain groups.

It's just a cult thing. As soon as the band does make a commercial recording, all the critics cry "Sell Out!' and drop them like a hot potato. And,God Forbid,if the band has a hit! Some folk think that they're cool by liking some obscure group or band that nobody in their right mind would ever enjoy! For example,I like Rammstein
