PETERBOROUGH, Ont. ─ A man who shot his son with his crossbow was fined $1,000 and had his hunting licence suspended for a year, according to the Ministry of Natural Resource.
Dave Sager, from Wooler, Ont., northwest of Trenton, pleaded guilty to causing a firearm to be discharged without due care and attention in a Belleville, Ont., court Tuesday, according to a release from the ministry.
Sager was also ordered to complete a hunter education course before he can have his hunting licence re-instated.
Court heard Sager returned to his ATV after hunting in the Murray Township area on Dec. 27 with his son and another person.
He was trying to unload his crossbow when he hit the trigger, court heard, releasing the bolt and striking his son.
His son was taken to Trenton Memorial Hospital. Court heard he is expected to make a full recovery.
