Migraine zapping device shows promise, study finds.
A study of 164 patients in a multi-centre, randomized clinical trial revealed that the portable device, known as a transcranial magnetic stimulator, caused 39 per cent of the participants to be pain-free two hours after the procedure.
Twenty-two per cent of the study's participants who received fake electrical stimulation reported being pain-free.
According to the authors, 50 to 60 per cent of people who suffer from migraines respond to drug therapies for the condition.
No adverse events were reported during the study.
According to Statistics Canada, 7.9 per cent of Canadians over age 12 have been diagnosed with migraine headaches.
